{"id":1637,"date":"2018-03-20T10:51:38","date_gmt":"2018-03-20T09:51:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/?p=1637"},"modified":"2025-10-22T10:15:27","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T08:15:27","slug":"windows-7-non-si-avvia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/en\/windows-7-wont-boot\/","title":{"rendered":"Windows 7 won&#8217;t boot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Even if Windows 8.1 and 10 are nowadays the most used versions of Microsoft operating system, Windows 7 is still installed on many PC and notebooks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of the worst things an user can experience is Windows 7 won&#8217;t boot anymore.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1641\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_00_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_00_en.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_00_en-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_00_en-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_00_en-360x270.png 360w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_00_en-750x563.png 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Personally, I tried a lot of recovery options, but in 99% of the cases, every of them resulted to be unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So, I decided to write down here on Nullalo the only method that seems to work in most of the cases.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Of course, I suggest you using this method only if everything else fails, since we&#8217;re going to manually write Windows boot from scratch.<\/p>\n<h2>The Solution<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here we go: the first thing to do is to boot your PC using a <strong>Microsoft Window 7 CD\/DVD\/Bootable USB<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1643\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_01_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_01_en.png 800w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_01_en-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_01_en-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_01_en-360x270.png 360w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_01_en-750x563.png 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now, you&#8217;ll need to open <strong>command prompt<\/strong>, with one of these methods:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">a) Simply press SHIFT + F10<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">b) Click &#8220;Next&#8221;, then &#8220;Repair your computer&#8221; title: ; notranslate\" title=\"\">\r\n\r\nbootrec.exe \/fixmbr\r\nbootsect.exe \/nt60 all \/force\r\nattrib -h -s C:\\boot\\BCD\r\ndel C:\\boot\\BCD\r\nbcdedit \/createstore c:\\boot\\bcd.temp\r\nbcdedit \/store c:\\boot\\bcd.temp \/create {bootmgr} \/d &quot;Windows Boot Manager&quot;\r\nbcdedit \/import c:\\boot\\bcd.temp\r\nbcdedit \/set {bootmgr} device partition=C:\r\nbcdedit \/timeout 10\r\nattrib -h -s C:\\boot\\bcd.temp\r\ndel c:\\boot\\bcd.temp\r\nbcdedit \/create \/d &quot;Microsoft Windows 7&quot; \/application osloader\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After last command, you&#8217;ll get a message like this:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: plain; title: ; notranslate\" title=\"\">\r\n\r\nThe entry {5ae3835f-2abc-11e8-96c3-dab3ce91eca7} was successfully created.\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1651\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_08_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_08_en.png 800w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_08_en-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_08_en-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_08_en-360x270.png 360w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_08_en-750x563.png 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now, before proceeding, we must <strong>identify the letter of the partition containing Windows folder<\/strong>. In order to do this, try moving from X:\\Sources to other partitions and list their contents. For example:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: plain; title: ; notranslate\" title=\"\">\r\n\r\ndir C:\\\r\n\r\ndir D:\\\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once you find the partition containing Windows folder (let&#8217;s say C:),\u00a0launch the following commands, <strong>replacing\u00a0{5ae3835f-2abc-11e8-96c3-dab3ce91eca7} with the sequence from the previous response and C: with your partition<\/strong> (C:, D:, etc&#8230;), to create a new boot entry for Microsoft Windows 7.<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush: plain; title: ; notranslate\" title=\"\">\r\n\r\nbcdedit \/set {5ae3835f-2abc-11e8-96c3-dab3ce91eca7} device partition=C:\r\nbcdedit \/set {5ae3835f-2abc-11e8-96c3-dab3ce91eca7} osdevice partition=C:\r\nbcdedit \/set {5ae3835f-2abc-11e8-96c3-dab3ce91eca7} path \\Windows\\system32\\winload.exe\r\nbcdedit \/set {5ae3835f-2abc-11e8-96c3-dab3ce91eca7} systemroot \\Windows\r\nbcdedit \/displayorder {5ae3835f-2abc-11e8-96c3-dab3ce91eca7}\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1652\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_09_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_09_en.png 800w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_09_en-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_09_en-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_09_en-360x270.png 360w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_09_en-750x563.png 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now, close command prompt and click on &#8220;Restart&#8221; (or simply restart PC with CTRL+ALT+DEL).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You Windows 7 installation should now boot, but if you face this error:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1653\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_10_en.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_10_en.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_10_en-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_10_en-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_10_en-360x270.png 360w, https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/windows_7_wont_boot_10_en-750x563.png 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">the partition letter you chose in the previous steps is probably wrong, and you&#8217;ll also need to use Windows 7 installation CD\/DVD\/Bootable USB and choose &#8220;Repair your computer&#8221;, but this time will work.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft Windows 7 won&#8217;t boot?
