Otherwise, the procedure is a bit more complex and is detailed below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To configure an e-mail account on any device, you need essentially 3 information:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>username<\/strong>: usually coinciding with your email address, with or without the domain (eg .: &#8220;nullalo@gmail.com&#8221; or just &#8220;nullalo&#8221;);<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>password<\/strong>: the password you chose when creating your account;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>incoming (POP3\/IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) mail servers<\/strong>: servers to connect to for\u00a0receiving and sending mail, provided directly by the service\u00a0provider. They consist of three parameters: address, port and authentication method (eg .: pop.gmail.com:995, SSL authentication).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Before starting, therefore, it is useful to know the incoming (POP3\/IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) mail servers of our email provider. The main Italian, in the form address: port, are the following:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>AOL<\/strong>: pop.aol.com:110 (POP3), imap.aol.com:143 (IMAP), smtp.aol.com:587 (SMTP)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>GMX<\/strong>: pop.gmx.com:995 (POP3 SSL), imap.gmx.com:993 (IMAP SSL), mail.gmx.com:587 (SMTP SSL)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Hotmail\/Outlook.com<\/strong>: pop3.live.com:995 (POP3 SSL), imap-mail.outlook.com:993 (IMAP SSL), smtp.live.com:465 (SMTP SSL)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Lycos<\/strong>: pop.lycos.com:110 (POP3), imap.lycos.com:143 (IMAP), smtp.lycos.com:587 (SMTP)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Yahoo<\/strong>: pop.mail.yahoo.com:995 (POP3 SSL), imap.mail.yahoo.com:993\u00a0(IMAP SSL), smtp.mail.yahoo.com:465 (SMTP SSL)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For <strong>Gmail<\/strong> it is recommended to use\u00a0the dedicate\u00a0client from Google, available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.gm&amp;hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">Play Store<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let&#8217;s open the &#8220;<strong>E-mail<\/strong>&#8221; application on our Android smartphone\/tablet: if it is the first time that we set up an email account, the following screen will show up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"bordered aligncenter wp-image-768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/android_mail_en_01.png\" alt=\"android_mail_en_01\" width=\"300\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Insert your email address and personal password, and click on &#8220;<strong>Manual setup<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At this point you will be asked the type of account: POP3, IMAP or Exchange: for the moment we will focus on the first two, remembering that with the POP3 protocol, <strong>emails are downloaded<\/strong> from the server, whereas with <strong>IMAP they are left on the server<\/strong> and stored temporarily in\u00a0device cache.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To sum up, if you choose <strong>POP3<\/strong> emails will be available on your Android smartphone\/tablet even without an Internet connection, but it\u00a0will require\u00a0more storage,\u00a0while choosing <strong>IMAP<\/strong> you will always\u00a0need an Internet connection to read emails, but you will save some space on your device. Still, if you choose POP3 you will have to take care to determine whether the email, once downloaded, will be deleted from the server and how often.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"bordered aligncenter wp-image-773\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nullalo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/android_mail_en_02.png\" alt=\"android_mail_en_02\" width=\"300\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At this point you will be asked for <strong>selected incoming\u00a0server parameters<\/strong>: all yo have to do is\u00a0insert them as already explained above, paying particular attention to the server <strong>port<\/strong> and authentication method (&#8220;<strong>Security type<\/strong>&#8220;). Normally the standard ports (110 for POP3 and 143 for IMAP) does not require authentication, except different configurations by the provider. For\u00a0POP3 accounts, you also need to determine whether and when to delete emails downloaded from the server.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"bordered wp-image-776\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/android_mail_en_03.png\" alt=\"android_mail_en_03\" width=\"300\" height=\"500\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"bordered wp-image-782\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/android_mail_en_03b.png\" alt=\"android_mail_en_03b\" width=\"300\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By clicking &#8220;Next&#8221; you finally get to the configuration of the <strong>outgoing mail server (SMTP)<\/strong>. Here, too, we will have to specify port (standard is 25) and security type, and if the server requires signin: Some outgoing mail server require <strong>username and password authentication<\/strong> (which are usually the same used for incoming server) to enable users to send\u00a0emails. In that case let &#8220;<strong>Require signin<\/strong>&#8221; checked, and change &#8220;<strong>Username<\/strong>&#8221; and &#8220;<strong>Password<\/strong>&#8221; entries only if for your provider\u00a0they don&#8217;t\u00a0match\u00a0incoming mail server ones.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"bordered aligncenter wp-image-779\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/android_mail_en_04.png\" alt=\"android_mail_en_04\" width=\"300\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After servers verification, you are prompted to choose the inbox checking frequency, notification for new messages (&#8220;<strong>Notify me when email arrives<\/strong>&#8220;) and automatic account synchronization between server and device (&#8220;<strong>Sync email from this account<\/strong>&#8220;).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"bordered wp-image-785\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/android_mail_en_05.png\" alt=\"android_mail_en_05\" width=\"300\" height=\"500\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"bordered wp-image-787\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/android_mail_en_05b.png\" alt=\"android_mail_en_05b\" width=\"300\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At this point account configuration is completed with the choice of a reference name for the account (as it will appear in the list of configured accounts on the device) and the name to display on outgoing messages\u00a0when sending emails.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"bordered aligncenter wp-image-788\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/android_mail_en_06.png\" alt=\"android_mail_en_06\" width=\"300\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Account setup is finally complete!
